This two-day introductory workshop provides a practical foundation in community-based social marketing (CBSM), an evidence-based approach for designing programs that foster safe, healthy, and sustainable behaviors. Used by agencies and organizations around the world, CBSM applies insights from behavioral science to remove barriers, increase motivation, and produce lasting behavior change. Through a mix of engaging presentations, real-world case studies, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, participants will learn the five core steps of the CBSM framework: selecting priority behaviors, identifying barriers and benefits, developing strategies, conducting pilot tests, and planning for broad-scale implementation. Attendees will leave with practical tools and a clear roadmap for designing and evaluating their own behavior change initiatives across environmental, health, and public safety topics. Participants will receive a printed copy of Fostering Sustainable Behavior: An Introduction to Community-Based Social Marketing, (4th edition), a Certificate of Completion, and access to additional resources for continued learning. This introductory workshop is a prerequisite for the Practical Applications workshop.
